I’m into old-fashioned internet blogging

This morning, on nytimes.com, I saw a link to an article which is being updated all day today, as the journalist liveblogs Thanksgiving. I thought liveblogging was corny before (mostly because I am picky about which internet/blogging trends I fall for), but now liveblogging has gone too far. To out corny them (because that’s what we’re about here at Wanderful, corny), I’m going to take it one step further and liveblog MY THANKSGIVING! But not like that, no - see, I always wanted to keep a list of all the things I am thankful for on Thanksgiving, but I usually forget or fall asleep for most of the afternoon. This year, whenever something comes to mind that I am thankful for, I’m going to liveblog it right here on Wanderful. Perhaps this isn’t really liveblogging - I think liveblogging is supposed to have something to do with following your own or someone else’s actions for a day. I don’t care, I’m liveblogging my thoughts, that’s what I’m liveblogging. Here we go:
I am thankful for…
9:13PM
Wine.

THE DINNER WE JUST ATE!

Some random ones: our friends and loved ones, dogs, National Parks, random people on the street who strike up ten minute conversations with us, writing and creating, good design, the Beatles, the west coast and California, the help we’ve received on this road trip from strangers without hesitation, ideas, the future. I’m sure there are more, but between cooking, photographing, videotaping and “liveblogging” the day, I am too tired to think of any more. I am truly thankful to live the life I lead, for having the chance to do everything I’ve done and most importantly, having the drive to do it.

7:15PM
Wanderful readers! Seriously, every time we receive an email from a random stranger about Wanderful or someone leaves a comment on our site, we are filled with joy to know someone out is interested in what we’re interested in. I just want to let you all know I am VERY thankful you’re reading this right now. The internet is great. That’s another one I’m thankful for - the internet.

6:46PM
Shockingly lower gas prices!!! At the beginning of this road trip we were spending all the money we had on gas. One time in Illinois we filled up on the best deal in town, $3.85 a gallon. Not ten minutes after we paid, they changed the sign to $4.25 a gallon!! I think the most we paid on this trip was $4.18. The other day we paid $1.85, and since then we’ve seen cheaper.

THE SMELL OF STUFFING COOKING!

5:20PM
A strong Wifi signal, which I do not have access to right now - or pretty much ever on this road trip. You don’t want to know what kind of hoops I have to jump through to get these posts to you.

4:39PM
A straight, open road - California roads are great, but after three hours of nonstop curves, I begin to miss Arco, ID:

All the nice people we’ve met on the road. Including all those who aren’t pictured here - because hey, sometimes I feel like it would just be a little rude to ask them to pose for a photo while they’re say, towing our T@B out of the mud.

Extremely delicious food. Especially eggs benedict, ice cream, Thai, Indian and Italian food. All extremely spicy foods too.

WANDA! Our fabulous home on the road and lifesaver.
Chicago
Wanda in Berwyn, IL at Alex, Chris and Vincent’s house. Chris is a professional photographer and he’s giving Wanda the special treatment.

Sure, without her we’d never had gotten stuck in the snow or mud…

But having her along for the ride has been sooo much more good than bad. It’s like 97% great, 3% crying because we’re stuck in Mother Nature’s practical jokes. Also, big thanks to T@B, for listening to our ideas and taking a chance on us.

1:51PM
My family, even though we’re not together today. Instead, everyone is in a different state (as far as I know, hmm maybe I should call them later) - we’re in California, my dad is in Massachusetts, my mom is in New York City, working, and Kaity and Steven are who knows where (probably New Jersey), but I am thankful for them too.

1:40PM
That run I just went on, which allows me to pig out as much as I’d like tonight.

Okay, if you get a chance to escape your family for five minutes today to check the internet (am I the only one who loves sneaking to the computer on a holiday?) check back, for I am liveblogging this s**t yo!

Love, Katie

This was really fun to read! Your Thanksgiving dinner looks great. I took a picture of my plate before I ate yesterday too. :)

  2. Katie Says:

Thanks Cassi. For some reason, our food is just about the only thing I always remember to take a photo of. I can’t even remember to update the daily photo page half the time…

  3. Erik & Nathan Says:

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Jules Says:

Give Mister a squeeze for me! I miss that little bugger.

I hope everyone else had a good Thanksgiving. Of course now that the holiday has passed no one cares anymore.
