About Us

Mark, Katie and Mister seize America
My name is Mark. Her name is Katie. And vice versa. For four years, we lived in a splendid apartment in the splendid town of Montclair, New Jersey, with a superbly splendid chihuahua named Mister. We were happy, but our lives became increasingly enveloped in routine and obligation. I mean employment and stuff. We don’t advocate that kind of lifestyle.

Verdant View Dairy Farm After many enthusiastic (read: inebriated) discussions of how to harness our creative instincts into meaningful outpourings, we arrived at a concept. What else could feed our mutual longing for excitement and discovery but: An American road trip! Enter Wanderful.us, a life-altering journey, and subsequent journal, that will reaffirm our connection with our home country.

We’ve been waiting and waiting for the right time to let loose and start traveling. Somehow, the proceedings of our lives have finally granted us the opportunity to take an extensive road trip. As of now, we’re resolving to act when good fortune comes.

Verdant View Dairy FarmThis has been long in the making. By now Katie and I have been planning and saving up for a nationwide road trip for almost three years. In December of 2007 we realized the map was upside down, so flipped it over and began new plans. What’s ahead of us is still a mystery, but we’re enamored with the romance of the unknown. We hope to stumble into unexpected terrain everyday. Things could go wrong, of course. Let’s not forget that the Titanic was a pretty swell ride until it was actually pitted against an obstacle. Dear readers, enjoy our anxiety attacks.

Verdant View Dairy FarmIt looks like all that excited jumping up and down we did while making this website must have gotten us some attention. A handful of companies have decided to help us with products to aid our struggles to help us make ends meet. A few magazines, newspapers, and blogs are interested enough to feature our stories and write their own stories about us. Heck, a fifth grade class will even be following our adventures as part of their combined curriculum.

Mark, Katie, Mister & Wanda the T@B Of course we need a place to crawl inside of when the enormity of the world gets to be overwhelming. Working out a cross-promotion with T@B RV took months of effort, but the reward is worth every laborious second. We’re proud to have a T@B as our little home on the road. It’s all we could ever ask for.

The attention is daunting, but expressing ourselves creatively is always a challenge that we’re willing to face. Even Mister enjoys to emote. This blog will one day become a journal that Katie and I share with our kids and grandchildren, as we gush to them about the best moments of our lives. This is the time to experience, to create, to share, to explore, to meet new people, to realize our individuality, to be inspired by our human race, to live! Well, now is the time to give it a try, anyway.

How Wanderful.us works
We attempt to update Wanderful daily, with a daily photo, a Mister photo, and a post on the front page - this is a goal we set for ourselves before the trip began and it’s proving to be quite the challenge (in a good way). Postcards and videos are posted as often as possible but hey, sometimes it’s just hard to find the time/internet connection while we’re on the road. Through this website, we hope to inspire people from all walks of life to get up and go on that road trip they have always wanted to take, but had too many excuses not to. If we can do it, you can too! We encourage you to EMAIL us about ANYTHING! We answer all emails with enthusiasm because we’re really freaking excited to hear from you. Thanks!
PS The .us does not stand for the word ‘us’ but for ‘United States’!
